Dishes

So here are my dishes. Pfaltzgraff for only twenty dollars. I am still amazed that I have them. It was my first week out of school for the year, I was just getting around, you know how nice it is to be able to sleep in a little? My brother needed a ride someplace that took me through our town. On my way back home I passed one, two, yard sales. The third, well, I kinda stopped. It was big, and very tempting. Never has giving into tempation been so profitable! The yard sale was wonderful, were I a rich woman  (with my own large house) I would have bought, let's say, a bunch more. I walked around and then I saw them! Just like my dear friend's (who I admire very much, and her dishes). They had no price, very afraid, I went to the woman running the sale. "How much are these dishes?" I asked. " She walked over in a carefree way, not at all aware at what was at stake here. "Hmmm, I guess I didn't price them, I don't know, why don't you make an offer?"  My heart racing, I said "I have twenty dollars." Without hestitation she said, "sounds great! I'll get some boxes!" I could have screamed with excitement, I was so thrilled. I egerly helped pack up my dishes and gingerly placed them in my car.  As I drove home I was laughing at myself, "Blackberry, really, you don't even have a house, plus you're broke. Why did you just buy dishes? Where are you even going to put them?" I pretty much just ignored myself and all these practicall thoughts and kept on being blissfully happy with my purchase. I got home, washed them all sparkling clean and counted them, each piece. I realized I have so many I could invited my whole family for dinner (providing I had my own house).  What a wonderful start to the school vacation.

Vintage Clothing Photo Shoot

Here are some of the pictures from our summer photo shoot. I meant to get these up a long time ago, but this is actually the first time I have been able to get my blog to upload photos, yay! The story behind this photo shoot is pretty simple. Once upon a time I got $50.00 from my lovely grandparents for my birthday, well under the influence of my wonderful mother and her friend I went to an auction. The auction was full of vintage clothing, I got a few boxes and then a few more and then I ran out of money...at the end of the night the back of our vehicle was full of clothes. As I drove us home I was really wondering what daddy was going to say and feeling a little nervous. Once home I employed a few sibblings to help me unload, then we went through the clothes. That was fun we all ended up trying at least one thing on, and a few bribes helped some people get something they really desired.
This summer we pulled them all back out and made up some outfits and did some hair and make-up and snapped these photos. My plan is to sell these vintage clothes on my etsy, I have some of them up already and I am slowly posting more. The word is out that I like vintage stuff, (especially clothes!) and consequently I have even more now. So next summer we'll be having another photo shoot, so if anyone is interested in becoming a model you should let me know, I might have a opportunity for you.
And credit to my momma, our fantastic photagrapher, and my lovely sisters as models, and thanks to my brother and his friend for being such willing subjects.

Lady Laura

Lady Laura, here she finally is! A lovely antique slip with my fanciful addends. A friend of my mom cleaned out her closets and gave me a whole bunch of fun things that make an artsy person like me jump up and down with excitement! Lady Laura was made absolutely in honor of the person who gave me the feather trim and the blue striped ticking. To brighten her color up a little I lightly dyed the skirt blue, well intended to, I did get it slightly blue, but somehow some purple showed up as well. Dark blue feathers and a bead necklace were begging to be added in the end, I couldn't resist. Lady Laura is modeled by my beautiful momma in a vintage shawl, which is momma's, so if you want it, you aren't going to get it. My etsy shop is in process of being started, and very soon Lady Laura will be joining Charlotte waiting to make someones dreams come true! I have to say, it is a good thing Lady Laura is a tad too big for me or I might be very tempted to keep her myself.

Charlotte

This is Charlotte, I just finished her this snowy afternoon, to the sound of daddy chain sawing. Momma and I found her a long time ago at an auction in Berks County, PA. Just recently momma and I rediscovered her tucked away in a closet. And I decided it was time for her to be loved again! Charlotte had some minor repairs and I made a belt to add some fun and color to her. Charlotte is an antique silk dress, simple yet beautiful. And I will also add the person who originally wore her, had very tiny arms. The sleeves are quite small. I hope to get my Etsy shop going very soon and Charlotte will be the first one there waiting for a new friend!

You are the Snow, I am the Ground

You are the Snow, I am the Ground

You are the snow
I am the ground
You fall down on me,
Swiftly, without a sound
Your touch burns my skin
Frostly embers
Brush me, face, eyes and chin
You melt slowly on my tongue
The sweet taste,
I let linger in my mouth
Your Northern winds,
I would not trade for all the South
For I love the thrill
Of your icey blast,
Swirling, off your back, cast
Like a blanket over me
In the weave of a snow angel,
You cover me
You kiss my lips,
My body, like fiery ice
Cold, cool, cool Bliss
You are the Snow
I am the Ground
You melt over me, seeping
Into my earth...
...Without a sound
